DCL JV Championship was held at NS on Wed. 26 Jan.

If little acorns grow mighty oaks, then Newton South has a new greenhouse!
Newton South was the host for the DCL J.V. track championships held last Wednesday in the fieldhouse. This was a day to spotlight the developing track and field athletes. What a remarkable event and with so much excitement. It commenced with several member of this coed track team singing the national anthem. The melody of their voices had the crowd mesmerized. Some of the visiting competitors requested that they perform at the Varsity DCL Championships too.

It has been 5 years since Newton South hosted the DCL J.V. Championships in the fieldhouse and this year's event has proven to be one of the most exciting meets for south's developing track stars.
Freshman sprinter Ester Cho ran the 3rd fastest time 8.10 in the 55M dash, with Sasha Restrepo finishing 6th 8.58. Another freshman, Rosalie Goldberg ran away from the pack and took 1st place in the 300M dash in 49.1, with her teammate Mikayla Bogart in tow for 3rd place with a 50.2. Both freshmen, Anna Alsop and Jina An took 1, 2 in the Shot Put with throws of 25'-5" and 24'-5" respectively.
From the Boys, Junior, Aaron Zheng's 41.6 was 2nd fastest in the 300M, while freshman Cornelius Funk ran an outstanding 300M race and placed 6th with 43.7. Both Juniors, Christopher Wong and Justin Lew had a remarkable day setting their new personal best in the Long Jump; 17'9" for Wong and 15'10" for Lew. Also Junior, Stephen Orken placed 1st in the Shot Put with 33'-1". Freshman, Nick Marino was 5th fastest in the 55M dash 7.42.

This Coed Sprint Group feed on challenging workouts and sports discipline, soiled with the support from good team leadership and sportsmanship. And, family, friends and alumni provide the water needed for these developing track athletes to blossom into Newton South's mighty oaks!
