MA All state Championships

Fitchburg State, 5 June 2012
Full results
Congrats to Newton North girls winning all states for 3rd year in a row.

NS soph shot putter Ryan Kim takes 15th in 47'-7". He had been in the low 50s in previous meets but as a sophomore he has many more chances to move up. He is already getting close to the best all time South shot putters. His spin put form is exciting to watch.

Story from Steve:

We had a successful trip to Fitchburg State.

Kyra Visnick was our only competitor and she made the most of it tying her PR of 10'6" in the pole vault to take 3rd place.  She had her best day of vaulting as she made 9'6", 10' and 10'6 on her first attempts and had three very good atempts at 11"0".

For many kids it could have been a hectic day as the meet was in Fitchburg and she needed to get back as soon as possible to go to the prom, but she handled the event and the day as she has handled the entire season and made the most of it.

Kyra has been the rock of the team the entire season rushing between the triple jump and the pole vault which go off at the same time in each and every meet from our dual meets, through the Division meet.  She would have had to go at the same time again and we decided to scarch her from the triple to allow her to compete in just one event and really focus on it.   Also she has had soreness doing so much for the team the entire season doing the 100,  pole vault,  triple jump and either the 4 x 100 or 4 x 400.  This was a chance to for her to do one event and shine in that event.

As soon as it was over and she had collected her medal and declared that she was going on to New Englands she had me rush her back to her house so that she could make the prom.
A lot of kids would not have handled that as well and many athletes choose to skip the state meet when there is a conflict with the prom. Kyra chose to do both and make the most of a great day.

Best,
Steven
