MA State meet div 1 at Andover

Beautiful day and great win for Newton South girls. About 5 new school records. The boys also had a lot of great performances especially in the relays.

109 points for NSHS girls - more than the next three teams combined!

Is this some sort of record for points scored? I feel like it is, or at least should be. They've been incredibly strong this year, but this is just unbelievable.

NSHS girls scored a lot of points but not more than the next 3 combined:
1) NEWTON SOUTH HS 109
2) ANDOVER 49
3) NEWTON NORTH HS 41
4) WEYMOUTH HS 37

6 school records...
Pebbles in TJ
Nalis in shot
4x100 relay
Kathy in 800
Bridget in mile
Juliet in 400

in all fairness, Juliet, Bridget, and Nalis broke their own records.

As for a record number of points, Cambridge women in the early-mid 1980's come to mind as a team that may have scored more points, as well as the Watertown men in the 1950's. It is really impossible to compare because the events have changed over the years; for example the Watertown men's 1957 indoor team scored 54 points under the old system (5-4-3-2-1) - we don't know about the 6th places. The 54 points were scored with only 1 relay, no two mile or long jump. The Cambridge women outdoors were over 100 points without the 4x800 or the pole vault (I don't know their exact total).

As a comparison, Newton North's records are 96 points for men (1958 Outdoors) and 85 for women (2005 indoors).

The scoring by the 2009 NSHS Women is quite remarkable no matter how you examine it, regardless of a points record.
