The girls varsity race sure had a lot of hype building up to it. Lots of spectators. South was in good position until close to the end where LS made a big push and pulled it off. Bridget and Juliet were not feeling well and had a tough time. Still it was very close and the big meets are coming up. These two teams should meet at least three more times; DCL championship, MA div states, and all states. They also might both go to a major team qualifier for the nationals.
This race was very very close. By time NS edged LS by 7 total seconds. 82:37 to 82:44. If this were a big meet the results could have been reversed because of LSs 5th runner being 23 seconds behind NSs 5th runner. Round 1 to LS.

The boys varsity race was fairly one sided. NS is ranked 1st in the state. LS is a strong team ranked 14th in the state but no match for the south pack. Ben was held out to rest a foot bruise from Saturday. Wil is training after an injury and should be racing in 2 1/2 weeks. Emerson, Marcus and Aden ran varsity and would be top runners for most other high schools in the state but not this year at NS. The course record of 14:58 was beaten by the 1st 6 runners. This must be a new course because I can't believe that others haven't run faster. It was reported in the local rag that the LS boys had won their last 36 dual meets. I think that was a typo. 26 sounds right. Concord-Carlisle was the previous dominant team. Well, it would be nice if this were the start of a new streak. Ben reports that NS should have a very strong and large incoming class next year. We will try to go to a Brown MS and Oak Hill MS meet and take photos for the blog.

did this course change? I just checked my log and saw that I ran a 15:20 there 3 years ago... could the course record really have been 14:58?
the course is 2.75 mi. starts on track, through a field loop, back through track and down pathway into woods. do one loops in woods, and come out along the field back to the track where you do a lap and finish.
I really do enjoy reading this blog, however I've noticed a trend that can be quite frustrating - the JV results are never known and only a sentence is given to each, listing only the top one or two South runners and sometimes none at all. I know no harm is meant, but by pushing the JV-ers out of the way and not having much attention paid to them can really make them feel like they're just, well, not important (I know this first hand from when I ran at South a few years back). It would be great if there could be a little more effort in this area, and I know it would make JV-ers a) much more excited about reading the blog because they'll have some recognition and b) will make the parents of JV-ers have a much clearer idea of how well their own child did!
Thank you so much and keep it up!
Michelle
I agree completely with the last post. Who can volunteer to help me by writing out the JV results and story and either sending it to me or I can make you a contributor to the blog? The varsity results are often easier to get and often printed out for me. I spend a few hours each meet shooting and preparing photos and need some help. I make sure to get lots of JV pictures. I;ll make a post to this issue.
