I could only be around for part of the meet and missed the great girls 2 mile where Kathy O'Keefe came in 2nd in 10:58. It was won by Kirsten Kasper in 10:48. This means that 3 Newton South girls ran under 11 minutes this season. Also, missed the boys 4x400 which finished 3rd in 3:29; Ben-John-Ben-Stephan. The girls mile saw Melanie go out in 71 with a giant lead but still held on to win in 5:17. Erika was 10th in the 800 in 2:36. In the boys mile the same thing happened with Pat Taft from Whitman-Hanson going out in 2:07 for the half and almost crawled in the last lap holding off a charging pack by 1.5 seconds. A few more steps and he would have been 5th. NS took 2,3,5 with Xulio, Ben and Igal, 4:35,35,36. I didn't get to see it but Nalis won the shot in 41-9 and took 3rd in the jav with 116-5. Ross took 2nd in the PV, his timing being a little off but winning the long jump into the wind in 21-8.25. Yong won the HH in 14:53. Cameron and Marcus took 5&9 in 10:05 and 10:15 in the 2M. Gus took 8th in the high jump in 5-8. Jelani took 5th in the discus in 126-6. David Melley was 5th in the frosh-soph mile in 4:41. Katie was 5th in the 100 in 12.83. Andrea was 4th in the 400m in 61.5. The girls 4x100 was 2nd in 50.61. Ezra was 3rd in the TJ in 35-1. Emily 4th discus in 98-2. Oh, also, Wil was incorrectly DQ'd in the 800m because he had a band-aid over his ear lobe. He had removed his ear stud for the race. I need more time to mention quite a few other performances. Who'd like to write these stories?
The boys were the team winners and girls would have been if Bridget, Kelsey and Madeleine hadn't gone to run and go 1,2,3 in the 2000 meter steeplechase in Hartford CT.
