DCL League Championships 19 May 2010

Results have been posted without pole vault. The NS girls lead Lincoln-Subbury by 8 points and the boys lead Acton-Boxborough by 1/4 point. Yes, that is close. The pole vault will be held today at Acton-Boxborough to determine the Championship meet winners.

Thursday was the DCL JV league meet. The varsity pole vault was also held.
Ross wins pole vault at 14'-0" on 3rd jump. David Brew of Acton-Boxborough takes 2nd with a jump of 13'-0", a 1'-6" PR! Two Westford jumpers, Brendan and Jung, take 3rd and 4th at 13'-0" (not certain). 5th?, 6th is taken by NS freshman Ben Eisenberg at an unknown height. Eleven points to NS. Eight points to AB unless AB took 5th?? It looks like NS won the meet for the boys. What happened in the girls PV?

DCL League Championships 19 May 2010, pre-results

The DCL League Championships were at Lincoln-Sudbury High School today. I had to leave at 7 with the meet only half over. The pole vault, a strong NS event, will be in Acton-Boxborough tomorrow.
I watched Xulio make a wild kick but couldn't quite hold off Alec Barnes of LS in the mile.
Kayla Burton ran a strong 800 meters for 2nd with a time probably under 2:20.
Kathy and Melanie ran 1 - 2 in the mile.
I think the boys took 2-4-6 in the 400 hurdles.
Hopefully, the results will be posted soon.
AB is a favorite for the boys. Their 100 to 800 runners are very fast and deep.
NS is probably the favorite for the girls.
Photos will be posted in a day or two.
(Anyone find a large Canon lens cover?)

Class A Relays at Durfee, Sat 15 May

The class A relays are Saturday at Durfee starting at 9:30 a.m. All events including field events are done as relays. The field events are a team of 3 with the best mark of each team member being added together.
Durfee is in Fall River and about an hour drive.
Address: 360 Elsbree Street, Fall River, MA 02720, Please verify.
google earth coordinates: 41°42'59.57"N, 71°07'42.90"W
I'm interested in hearing about the boys long jump where New Bedford has 2 top jumpers in the state.
1. 12 Jon Williams 23' 10.50 MA New Bedford
4. 11 Phito Gondre 22' 7.00 MA New Bedford
Sorry about the earlier mistake about 2 Jon Williams. He jumps so far he was outasite.
Newton North holds the record at 67-9.75 in 2008. Newton South won last year in 63-4.75.
OK, while we're talking New Bedford, they'll probably have a great shuttle hurdles team. The MA record is 1:00.40 set in 2005.
The Newton South boys pole vault team should also be strong with:
1. 11 Mark Vetere 14' 6.00 MA Andover
1. 12 Ross McDonald 14' 6.00 MA Newton South
3. 11 Patryk Backiel 14' 0.00 MA New Bedford
4. 12 Adam Vetere 13' 6.00 MA Andover
5. 12 Michael Reading 13' 0.00 MA North Andover
5. 12 Jung Park 13' 0.00 MA Westford Academy
7. 11 Zach Delisle 12' 10.00 MA Chicopee Comprehensive
8. 9 Ben Eisenberg 12' 0.00 MA Newton South
8. 12 Chris Cheung 12' 0.00 MA Newton South
Andover has the record set last year at 37'-0".
Watch for the 3rd Andover jumper.
NS has many other top relays but that's it for my preview.
Teamwise, Newton South girls won last year and the boys were 2nd out of about 24 scoring teams. Newton South and North girls should be very strong tomorrow.

Girls score vs LS 89 - 59. Andrea Keklak did not run and she is worth a lot of points to LS. Hopefully she will be back soon.

DCL meet Wed.; NS v LS v Bedford, Wed. 12 May 4 p.m.

Newton South goes up against Lincoln-Sudbury and Bedford tomorrow, Wednesday 4 p.m. at LS. This should be a very good meet between LS and NS. Bedford, a much smaller school, will have a hard time.
Wear very warm clothes and bring rain gear. For sprinters this is very important to get good times with less chance of injury. There's no way the team could fit in the tents even if we had them all.

Alumni Results 1st May weekend

I watched some of the New England D3 T&F championships at Tufts. Freshman, Andrew Wortham of Bates, ran the 3000 meter steeplechase in 9:23.77 for 3rd place and a provisional qualifying time for the D3 national championships. Then, freshman, Juliet Ryan-Davis of Middlebury, running in the slowest heat because of a slow qualifying time (2:22) ran a first quarter in 64 by herself and held on for a 2:13.90 800 meters, good for 5th overall and also a provisional national qualifying time. Juliet also was a part of Middlebury's 3rd place finish in the 4x400 meters in 3:56.82. Tuft's Cliff Bargar and MIT's Matt Weaver were there spectating. Matt missed qualifying for the meet in the 10,000 meters by 11 seconds.
