NS v Lincoln-Sudbury v Arlington; Wed. 1 Oct.

The next double dual meet is this Wednesday at Lincoln-Sudbury High School in Sudbury. Arlington will be a minor player in this meet.
The address is: 390 Lincoln Road, Sudbury, MA 01776 near the intersection of Concord Road. The start and finish is on the track in back of the school. I think race start is 4 pm. (JV boys, varsity girls, varsity boys, JV girls).
For the girls:
Lincoln-Sudbury is ranked 1st in the state, 1st in the northeast and 12th nationally. Newton South is ranked 2nd state, 3rd in northeast and 17th nationally.
MSTCA state poll
Dyestat regional rankings
Dyestat national rankings
For the boys:
Lincoln-Sudbury has won 36 straight dual meets. Twice in that time NS has lost their dual meet with LS but won the league meet. (NS typically does not rest for early meets).
NS is ranked 1st in the state, and a "bubble team" for the northeast region. LS is ranked 14th in the state.
MSTCA state poll
The LS dual meet streak is on the line. LS is a strong team team and probably aiming to maintain the DCL streak.

Was this a swim meet? The varsity boys only had a little rain. It was very humid and about 70 degrees. Just before the boys JV race there was a torrential downpour slowing down the race even more. In the boys championship race NS took 1st place with 113 points. There were teams from 6 states. 102 schools signed up - don't know how many actually showed. It looked like 1000s of people at event.

New Balance Ocean State XC Invitational 27 Sept.

A NS boys varsity and JV team will run in the New balance Ocean State XC Invitational on Saturday 27 Sept. The boys varsity will be in the championship race reserved for the best teams. The JV team would place well in the varsity non championship race but the team is not allowed to enter a 2nd team in another varsity race. It is expected to be warm and rainy and especially muddy. Classic XC. For info about the race, times and directions se the race site:

Official varsity results will be posted here
JV boys:
From NS v Boston Latin v Waltham & Charlestown; 24 Sept. 08

Today's meet at Cold Spring Park in Newton was against DCL teams Boston Latin and Waltham. Charlestown was also invited to run. Charlestown does not have a school team but they have one of the fastest distance runners in the state. Newton South won all races against each team. Parents organized by Holly Schneider provided food for all runners.
The next race will be for the boys this Saturday at the Ocean State Invitational. It will be for the varsity and the 8 JV boys who broke 18 minutes for a 5K so far this year. This will be the 1st test against the very strong St. Johns Prep.
Next Wednesday will be the 1st race against Lincoln-Sudbury. The LS girls are presently ranked 1st in MA and 8th in the US. The NS girls are ranked 2nd in MA and 13th in the US. It is unusual that two teams so highly ranked are in the same league. The local papers and many running aficionados will probably be at this meet.

Amherst Invitational -Sat. 20 Sept. 2008

Both boys and girls will be going to the Amherst Invitational tomorrow Saturday. The logistics are easier than splitting up the team. I don't know which runners are going. The bus leaves early, I think by 7 am.
Estimated Schedule of Events: Please reconfirm on Race Day:
10 AM Freshman Girls
10:40 Freshman Boys
11:20 Varsity Girls
12:00 Varsity Boys
12:40 JV Girls
1:20 JV Boys
Full information from the website:
http://www.amherstxc.org/invitational/index.html
The NS girls team won in 07 with Kelsey the individual winner. The boys finished 3rd last year. JV boys won last year led by winner Marcus Schneider. JV girls in 07 won with Juliet Ryan-Davis and Elizabeth May taking 1-2.

I'll be there till about 12:45 pm. I'm sure there'll be some parents coming to this meet, long drive and all.

On another note the MSTCA just came out with this weeks (18 Sept.) polls:
http://www.mstca.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=81&Itemid=1
The boys are polled at 1st and girls at 2nd in the state. In reality, the top four boys teams are very close. It's hard to pick the best. On any day one of these teams could win. For the girls it does seem like Lincoln-Sudbury and Newton South are a step or two ahead of the competition.

NS v CC v Wayland - 17 Sept. 2008

From NS v CC v Wayland 17 Sept. 2008

A most beautiful day in Concord. I should have brought my suit for a dip in Waldon after the races.
Quickly.
The boys JV pulled off a squeaker against CC. 27-28.
The girls varsity saw real competition from CC but won solidly.
The boys varsity running with half the varsity team supported by a lot of next years varsity won easily taking the top 3 places.
The girls JV couldn't match the depth of CC.
Wayland was not a factor in any of the races.
I took tons of photos but will have to post them in coming days. Check back later.

NS vs Acton-Boxboro and Charlestown

Click here for Photos by George

Newton South had its 1st dual meet of the season Wednesday against Acton-Boxborough. Charlestown was also invited to run in the race. Charlestown has two of the fastest runners in the state but no cross country program. Their track coach, Kristyn Hughes, a guidance counselor at Charlestown High is unofficially (with no pay) arranging for the team to run in various races. Their star runner, Omar Aden, has already run a 4:13.8 mile winning last years outdoor All State track title. The boys track team were All state champions for Spring 2008.

I don't have official results, but Newton South won both varsity and JV races.
From NS v Acton-Boxboro, guest Charlestown

The girls varsity were well out in front. One very good AB runner took 6th place preventing the big 15-50 sweep. The final score was 15-48.

Aden gradually pulled away with about 1/2 M to go.
Aden and perhaps Wortham might have broken course record?
